SEESALT’s Community-to-market Waste Management Engine
365 Tons of Change, One Community at a Time.
The Wake-Up Call
It started with a simple walk along Kokrobite beach. Where tourists once photographed pristine shores, plastic bottles now outnumbered seashells. The statistics were sobering: 45% of our waste scarring the land, 55% choking our sea. Our fishing nets caught more plastic than fish. Our children played in trash-filled streets.
But in this crisis, we saw opportunity.
The Vision Takes Shape
In July 2025, something remarkable happened. We didn't just organize another cleanup – we sparked a movement. 350 residents answered the call, from schoolchildren to grandmothers, from local chiefs to young entrepreneurs. Together, we removed truckloads of waste. But more importantly, we asked: "What if this waste could transform lives?"
That's when we met Chris Sesa, who saw art in bottle caps. Evans, who envisioned motorcycles from discarded plastics. Solomon, who built furniture from what others threw away. These weren't just recyclers – they were innovators waiting for opportunity.
Building the Engine
We created something unprecedented: a Community-to-Market Waste Management Engine. Not a charity, but a sustainable business that puts ownership in local hands.
Our buyback center became the heart of transformation. Communities collect. We sort, shred, and bale. Buyers like Trashy Bags and Coliba purchase our materials. But here's what makes us different – profits flow back to support informal entrepreneurs, giving them steady materials, capital, and real market access.
By August, we'd connected 17 entrepreneurs with investors. Two investment commitments were secured. Our youth upcycling competition showcased 30+ innovative creations. We're now processing 30+ metric tons monthly, with a goal of 360+ tons annually.
The Ripple Effect
Jonathan Bentum, our Senior Community Liaison with decades of local leadership, puts it best: "We're not just cleaning Kokrobite – we're rebuilding it."
From Kokrobite Institute to traditional chiefs, from MPs to international partners like ASASE Foundation and Danone, our coalition grows stronger. Each cleanup brings more believers. Each entrepreneur we support inspires others.
92% of Ghanaian businesses operate informally, disconnected from opportunity. We're changing that, one entrepreneur at a time.
Your Part in Our Story
This isn't just about Kokrobite. It's about proving that communities can transform their own futures when given the tools and trust to lead.
Whether you join our monthly cleanups, support our entrepreneurs, invest in our expansion, or replicate our model in your community – you become part of this story.
Together, we're not just managing waste. We're creating ownership, building dignity, and proving that what others discard can become the foundation for prosperity.
Join us. Let's write the next chapter together.
We are currently seeking $50,000 in pre-seed funding to expand our buyback center network and scale our impact across Ghana.
